fter leaving Kenya back in 1981 at the age of 15 and having lived there since 1969, I had a number of friends with whom I lost contact. Since 1999 I have managed to find a number of them and was toying with the idea of setting up a web page so that we could post our addresses (and then and now pictures if offered!) so that we could have a central resource for others to find us. One of the cowboys - Lester Kemp mentioned that perhaps we should get a domain name to host this site and so here it is, very much in its infancy at the moment, but will hopefully grow into something bigger through time.

This site is attempting to put those people with nostalgic remembrances in touch with each other.
In the process, we hope to get old friends and acquaintances, who have lost contacts, to use the web to re-establish those connections.

The original site was cobbled together in 4 days (out of envy of Richard Bowen, Harro Witterman, and John Coyne who'd bothered to set up their own Kenya pages) and went 'Live' on 14th August 2000. A high resolution site followed shortly after. At the outset I had no idea of how popular (and time consuming) it would be. It's been VERY popular and this new site has been set up in appreciation of your appreciation. It will, hopefully, continue to develop all of the links and contacts collected by all of the clever coves mentioned above and will introduce even more Legends, Apocryphal (bulls**t), and Places. Most of the site is interactive with real-time addition of Contacts, Places, Message posting and Photo uploads.

My name is Richard C Bowen (hence the "RCBowen"). I am indeed the same Richard Bowen who is involved in various things related to the Apache Web Server, including writing a couple books on that topic. My parents were married in Kenya, in Kericho. They are US citizens, but have spent more time in Kenya than in the US, having been there from a few years after independence until the late 90s. While they have now returned to the US, their hearts are still more African than American.

his site was one of the first Kenya sites on the web. As far as we know, only RC Bowen's page was up before ours, although a couple of others came online around the same time as ours. We built the majority of this site in 1996 and 1997, when we had much more time than we have now.
